Will Barcelona breeze to another title?

All summer, the focus has very much been on Barcelona’s arch-rivals, Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane hasn’t been afraid to throw Real’s money about, as he looks to re-energise a side who failed to land a blow last campaign. The obvious starting point is the addition of Eden Hazard from Chelsea, who will no doubt be their star player next season.

Real Madrid have strengthened in every area, but it was obvious they needed to. After finishing 19 points off Barcelona and eight points off Atletico Madrid, it is fair to say Real Madrid were embarrassed several times last season.

But with all the focus on Real Madrid, are people forgetting Barcelona’s dominance in domestic football? They may have been dumped out of the Champions League with their tail between their leagues for a second year in a row, after being smashed by Liverpool at Anfield, but they have dominated La Liga for years. La Liga betting shows Barcelona are the favourites to retain their title, with Real Madrid second favourites at 13-8. Despite finishing second, Atletico Madrid are third favourites at 12-1 with Bet365.

Atletico Madrid have lost a large chunk of their defence, with Diego Godin heading to Inter Milan, Lucas Hernandez moving to Bayern Munich, Juanfran joining Sao Paolo and Filipe Luis returning to Brazil to see out his final few years before he retires. Joao Felix has been brought in for a record fee of 126 million euros from Benfica, with a lot of expectation to deliver this season. However, he is just the poster boy of what has been a large rebuild for Atleti over the summer.

Last year, Barcelona secured their eighth title in 11 seasons, and with ease. Not only did they win La Liga in style, but they have brought in Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, who has been Atletico’s star man for several years. Griezmann is one of the most talented attackers in world football, so his arrival adds to an already potent forward line. The additions of Frenkie de Jong and Junior Firpo strengthen two key areas of the squad, while Neto ensures they have depth in the goalkeeping position, and they have been able to move on a number of players who were surplus to requirements.

Barcelona’s star player, Lionel Messi, took to the pitch after their 2-1 pre-season friendly against Arsenal to address the Camp Nou crowd. The Argentine told the sell-out crowd that Barcelona’s success in the domestic league was not to be sniffed at, despite failing to win the Champions League the past two seasons.

Barcelona will probably prefer the attention to be away from them after their disappointing defeat to Liverpool. But they have nothing to prove on home soil and are likely to once again show why they are the best team in Spain come May next year. It will take an awful lot to prevent Messi and co. from securing their ninth title in twelve seasons, that is for sure.

Perez about Murinho

Hate by many, envied by a lot of peoples, liked by the ones that matter. The man I am talking about is Real Madrid manager, Jose Murinho. The media was writing a lot of times of the argues between the Portuguese coach and the directing board of Real. All that are wiped now by Florentino Perez declaration.

Perez still considers Murinho the best coach in the world. To support this, he made a brief characterization of his performance at the club, putting on paper only the positive achievements, although it is obvious that the major failures are the trophies lost to Barcelona.

The LIST:

-Murinho managed to understand what it means to be coach of Real Madrid;

-he empathizes well with the club atmosphere and with the history of this team;

-he understood that sometimes you have to make compromises for the good of the team;

-he managed to lead Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final, last reached in 2003;

-we gathered the most points in Champions League groups and had the best goal average;

-he managed to reorganize the club structure in order to bring peace between players and board.

With so much appreciation and support from the club, Murinho has to prove this year that he really is the best coach in the world and not only for the board.

Real fighting with injuries

Bad news are coming for Real Madrid. After the first defeat of this season and with just one point behind Barcelona, Murinho has to deal now with the injuries of two of his players. Things couldn’t be worse considering that Barcelona blown the charts in their last game making 8-0 with Osasuna.

Jose Murinho sees himself in a difficult situation, first from this season. In the last game lost against Levante with 0-1, Real lost Khedira who was eliminated and another two players after injuries. Pepe and Coentrao won’t be available for Murinho at least for 10 days, both suffering of a tie injury.

After this game the injuries list for Real adds two more, after some old ones like Nuri Sahin and Hamit Altintop. This thing makes it difficult for Murinho to assemble the right team for their next games.

Real Madrid have in their schedule a game with Real Sociedad and with Rayo Vallecano in Primera Division, followed right after by the Champions League fixture against Ajax Amsterdam. Though Champions League is important, they have to focus on the Primera Division because if Barcelona puts a gap between them, they will be very hard to catch.

Xabi Alonso: this could be it!

After in last article people tried to explain the way of winning over Barcelona, now, from their most fierce enemy, Real Madrid, comes a modest player. Xabi Alonso is a bit more realistic in declarations comparing with his manager and colleagues.

Real Madrid midfielder spoke about Real’s chances of making a big year this season. His statements are totally different from the usual of Mourinho‘s and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Xabi said: “We are used to play from 3 to 3 days, the coach choose the best 11 and we could play in rotation, that would not bother me, as the coach thinks is best. The decision belongs to him and I will never oppose them. We started well in the championship and Champions League, I have a beautiful premonition, but there is still room for improvement.

Real Madrid is currently on the first place of the board and the next game they have to face is against Levante.

We have 36 matches and have to take them one by one. The important thing is that we must grow in value from a match to another. We feel it. We have a nice team. ” said Xabi Alonso.
