Platini, the new old FIFA boss

In the position of sole candidate for another term of four years at the head of UEFA, Michel Platini was elected today at the Continental Congress court of Paris. There was no question of a vote, while the representatives of 53 affiliated federations have appealed to the second procedure in regulation. The former French international was confirmed in office with acclaims!

It was practically Platini‘s recognition of merit, which in the first term, begun in 2007, managed to bring to an end many of the proposed projects:

– A new format of the Champions League final with optimal spread over several weeks and end on Saturday;
– Another Europe League TV rights centralized League model system that will be applied in the preliminary EC and CM (Area Europe) since 2014
– EC-final tournaments will take part in 24 teams, not 16, as before
– It persuaded to abolish the G14 clubs to join the forum and continental European Club Association
– He founded the Strategic Council, where clubs, leagues and players’ representatives are involved in decision making
– All of them belong to the idea of line judges, already in the League and Champions League.
In this new term Platini will try to introduce in this world the women. Will his efforts success?

Real Madrid, 5th in a row!

“El Derbi madrileño “ has a history of 82 years with Real Madrid leading the hostilities. Los Blancos have won 80 times and drew 31 times, losing 35 games. Atletico was not on before Real’s 11 years, and in the last 20 years has won only 3 times.

Real Madrid managed to obtain the fifth victory in a row, a victory well earned after a good game in the Spanish capital derby with Atletico 2-1.

Karim Benzema opened turned on the scoring board for Real Madrid in 11 minutes, the advantage being doubled 33 minutes with help from Mesut Ozil with a shot under the bar.

Aguero has reduced the difference to the final four minutes, but it was too less and too late to change anything in the game.

Jose Mourinho‘s team remains five points behind Barcelona after the Catalans have won the match with Getafe(2-1), keeping the bar high for competition.

Europa League quarter-final draws

Today were the draws for the next stages in the Europa League. And without more chat, these are the games:

Quarter-final draw (7 &14 April)

FC Porto – FC Spartak Moskva
SL Benfica – PSV Eindhoven
Villarreal CF – FC Twente
SC Braga – FC Dynamo Kiev

Semi-final draw (28 April & 5 May)

1: Braga/Dynamo – Benfica/PSV
2: Porto/Spartak – Villarreal/Twente

Europa League, what a beautiful night!

Manchester City FC 1-0 FC Dynamo Kiev (agg: 1-2)
Dynamo Kiev managed to qualify after a good game against one of the wealthiest club, Manchester City, a ten men crew this match, and just one goal scored.
After a reasonable 2-0 from the first leg for Kiev, City’s hopes sprung but the one goal scored was not enough.

Paris Saint-Germain FC 1-1 SL Benfica (agg: 2-3)

Another successful year for Benfica, no. 2 in a row, caught the qualification train after a good first leg, a well played game.

FC Zenit St Petersburg 2-0 FC Twente (agg: 2-3)
The Russians struggled giving everything they had, but, even with two goals scored it wasn’t enough for a ticket to the next stage.

FC Spartak Moskva 3-0 AFC Ajax (agg: 4-0)
Ajax was no match for Spartak offensive force, giving up three times before a final whistle. The Russians march in speed for the draws to the next stage.

Villarreal CF 2-1 Bayer 04 Leverkusen (agg: 5-3)
Leading 3-2 after last week’s first leg, and with some help from Santi Cazorla and Giuseppe Rossi lead the Yellow Submarine into the next stage of Europa League.

FC Porto 2-1 PFC CSKA Moskva (agg: 3-1)
Awesome start for the Dragons with a goal in the first minute, shattering all the hopes for Moskova. Qualification for Porto.

Rangers FC 0-1 PSV Eindhoven (agg: 0-1)
PSV managed a good game against the Rangers. The victory was well deserved and even with just one goal scored, the qualification was in their hands.

Liverpool FC 0-0 SC Braga (agg: 0-1)
Braga is the surprise in this stage, after two good games against Liverpool FC. They kept the one-goal advantage and with a more or less emotions they where the name in the extraction urn for the next stage.
